Everyone, I’m elated to tell you that Tumblr will be joining Yahoo.
Before touching on how awesome this is, let me try to allay any concerns: We’re not turning purple. Our headquarters isn’t moving. Our team isn’t changing. Our roadmap isn’t changing. And our mission – to empower creators to make their best work and get it in front of the audience they deserve – certainly isn’t changing.
So what’s new? Simply, Tumblr gets better faster. The work ahead of us remains the same – and we still have a long way to go! – but with more resources to draw from.
Yahoo is the original Internet company, and Marissa and her team share our dream to make the Internet the ultimate creative canvas. I couldn’t be more excited to have her help. We also share a vision for Tumblr’s business that doesn’t compromise the community and product we love. Plus both our logos end with punctuation!
As always, everything that Tumblr is, we owe to this unbelievable community. We won’t let you down.
Fuck yeah,
David
To everyone who thought Clara jumping into the timestream was sexist because “she gave up everything JUST to save the Doctor”…
Did you not notice the multiple planets winking out of existence?
The world without the Doctor is a bad one. We saw a taste of it wayyyyyy back in “Turn Left”, and that was before a good three hundred years of Eleven history. Clara wasn’t just sacrificing herself to save the Doctor—she was saving hundred of millions, even BILLIONS of lives. She saved Jenny, she saved Amy from Prisoner Zero and the crack in her wall, she saved Torchwood, she saved everyone at Demon’s Run (and to that extent, she even saved River).
Clara’s actions were bigger than the Doctor. She might not have realized the extent of it at the time.
When Clara Oswin Oswald jumped into the Doctor’s timestream, she became the second savior of the universe.
I remember The Master distinctly saying in The Five Doctors:
“A cosmos without the Doctor scarcely bears thinking about. ”
And this was long before any Time War; and the loss of the Guardians of Time and the Time Lords, when The Doctor took on many more burdens of the universe.
And this is where the truth of the matter lies. The Doctor is more vastly important to the universe then some people realise. He has touched so many lives and won so many battles, even without raising a hand. Just at the mention of his name, armies turn away.
Clara is just as important as The Doctor because she has been with him for every moment. Without Clara, The Doctor’s victories would not have come about and thus the universe would be vastly different. She has saved his life over and over again. Most of the time, just like The Doctor, without anyone even realising she was there.
Clara’s never asked to be thanked, she never asked more than that The Doctor remembered her so she could live.
If you want to put an ideal forward, Clara is representing every fan of Doctor Who who has kept the show alive. She’s been there since the beginning, observing The Doctor, encouraging him on. Seeing every face of The Doctor.
Clara’s birthday is the 23rd Of November; because she is that little child who sat enthralled in 1963 when Ian and Barbara stepped through a police box doors to discover it was a living ship that could travel anywhere in time and space.
(Clara “gave” that TARDIS to The Doctor.)
She was there when The Doctor was waning and entered it’s dark age.
(Clara was there when the Seventh Doctor was hanging on for dear life.)
Clara saw the oh so brief passing of the Eighth Doctor’s single movie.
(Literally. Although I take slight offence at this comparison, given that he has the longest term in novels and audio dramas, but in terms of television, I’ll give it that.)
And Clara was there when The Doctor returned to television screens in 2005.
(Nine is the first and only Modern Doctor that goes running past Clara when her task is done.)
And now her task is complete. The future of Doctor Who lies ahead with the Eleventh Doctor coming to take Clara there…but one object lies ahead before we can move on.
The unknown “Doctor” who is undoubtedly the one who ended the Time War. The one hidden from all of us. This is what Clara represents. This is why we have seen her through The Doctor’s eyes, because otherwise The Doctor’s life has been laid bare…save for his greatest secret.
Because the Doctor Who companion has always been the audiences eyes in the show. And the Time War has been hidden from us for so long. It makes perfect sense for there to be another Doctor as the one who time-locked Gallifrey.
Clara was the Modern Who’s gateway into Classic Who. She was the bridge and now we have the part of The Doctor’s life hidden from us since his debut on television.
And I’m sitting here thinking, “Lol idiots, I’m on Tumblr”.
